Federal Government Battery Rebate
Cheaper Home Batteries now available!
Good news for households looking to save on their electricity bills and reduce their reliance on the grid. The federal government subsidy program for batteries is set to make home batteries more affordable. Get ready to take control of your energy usage and enjoy greater energy self-sufficiency and lower electricity costs for your home.
If you’ve been considering installing a battery to store your excess solar energy, or looking to install a complete solar and batter package, we’re here to talk you through your options and how to make the most of the new government subsidies.

Federal Government Battery Incentive - Now Available
The Cheaper Home Battery Program
The government is now offering subsidies of upto $370/kWh off the upfront cost of purchasing and installing home battery systems. This initiative aims to help lower the cost of electricity bills for the millions of Australians who already have rooftop solar, and support long term electricity bill reductions.
The subsidy is available to all households, and small businesses – with no income tax or property valuation eligibility requirements required, making it easy for everyone to benefit from the subsidy. Battery systems of upto 50kWh are eligible to receive the subsidy, which would amount to approximately $18,500 off the cost of the installation!
How The Subsidy Will Work
- Step 1:Speak to an experience home solar battery installer – Like Stored Solar. We will then help you select the right option for your home.
- Step 2:The value of the subsidy will be deducted upfront. If you plan to install our most popular 16kWh battery system, that will be $5,920 off the total install.
- Step 3:Schedule the install. Once everything’s confirmed, we’ll take care of the installation so you can enjoy your new energy system.
- Step 4:Start saving immediately. Your battery system will start saving you on your electricity bills once the installation is complete. Batteries save homes with solar on average an additional $1,100 a year.

How Much Is The Subsidy
The subsidy amount is expected to be around $370/kWh of usable installed storage. That means it will cover around one third of the total installation costs, making pay back time on a battery system that much faster.
Subsidy Details
- Maximum Cap: Upto $18,500, or 50kWh will be covered by the subsidy. Households can install a maximum of 100kWh, but only the first 50kWh will receive the subsidy.
- Type of Batteries: Any approved battery system can be installed. The battery must be VPP ready, which allows the battery to trade with the grid, potentially adding extra savings to the system
- Subsidy percentage: Upto 33% of the cost of the battery system fully installed is expected to be covered.
- Location: Available Australia wide, for both grid connected and off grid homes.

ACT Sustainable Household Scheme
The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme can be used in addition to the Federal government battery scheme. This makes it even easier for ACT residents to upgrade their homes with a home battery and energy-efficient solutions—offering zero-interest loans with no catches. Eligible homeowners can borrow between $2,000 and $15,000 to cover the cost of energy-saving products, with repayments spread over 10 years.
Lower your month electricity expenses immediately, with no upfront costs, and simple 0% interest monthly repayments through this scheme.
We offer a range of eligible products under this scheme, including:
- Rooftop solar panels.
- Household battery storage systems.
- Electric heating and cooling systems.
- Hot water heat pumps (HWHP).
- Electric stovetops.
- Electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
- Installation costs for these products.
To qualify for the ACT Sustainable Household Scheme, the unimproved value (UV) of your property must meet specific thresholds. For solar systems, the property’s UV must be $450,000 or less in any year from 2022. For all other upgrades, the UV must be $750,000 or less in any year from 2022. If you live in a unit-titled multi-storey apartment, the UV must be $300,000 or less in any year from 2022.
NSW Battery Incentive
NSW residents can potentially double up on battery rebates, with the federal government incentive andthe NSW Solar Battery Incentive as part of the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS). This is yet to be confirmed by the NSW state government, but it promises to significantly slash the price of a battery and provide big savings to home owners.
The program offers rebates to help homes with rooftop solar systems install batteries to store energy and connect to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).
The rebates typically range between $1,600 and $4,500, depending on the size of the solar battery. There are also incentives for connecting the battery to a VPP.
Small-scale Technology Certificate Rebate
Australia’s residential solar rebate and a part of the government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). This incentive helps offset the initial costs of solar installations, in exactly the same way as the new battery subsidy.
By combining both the solar rebate, and now the battery rebate, you can now install a comprehensive energy system for long term savings, at a lower cost. The rebate you can claim for solar depends on the size of your system, and drops each year on December 31st, so don’t wait till next year.
You don’t need to worry about applying for the solar rebate, we do it for you. We calculate the rebate amount and deduct it from your installation cost. Now is the perfect time to make the most of the solar and battery incentive and start saving with immediately.
ACT Home Energy Support Program
ACT residents may be eligible for up to $5,000 in rebates through the Home Energy Support Program. This incentive can be split into two parts: up to $2,500 towards solar and battery systems and another $2,500 towards other upgrades like reverse-cycle heating and cooling, hot water heat pumps, or ceiling insulation.
You can also combine this rebate with a zero-interest loan of up to $10,000 under the ACT Sustainable Household Scheme. For example, if your total purchase is $15,000, the ACT Government covers $5,000 with the rebate, leaving $10,000 to be paid through the interest-free loan.
How Much Will A Solar Battery Save Me?
Add To An Existing Solar System
Save on average an extra $1,100 ontop of your existing solar savings each year when you add a well designed battery system to your existing solar set up.
A New Complete Solar+Battery System
Save around $2,300 a year when you add a well designed solar system AND a battery system. That is around 90% of the average annual electricity bill for most Australian households.
